Placing the relic casket on elephants during the final day of the 2026 annual procession at the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya
The last day of the 2026 annual Asala Perahera of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya was marked by the placing of the relic casket of the historic Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya on elephants by His Excellency President Anura Kumara Disanayake, who later joined the final day of the procession.
For this, the Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Mr. R.M. Jayawardena, the Governor of Uva Province, Mr. J. M. Kapila Jayasekara, the Monaragala District Secretary and Camp Officer-in-Charge, Mr. A.G. Nishantha, Kataragama. Divisional Secretary K. Mr. Prageeth Kulathilaka, Member of Parliament Ruwan Wijeweera, the current Diyawadana Nilam of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Mr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the lay trustee of the historic Kataragama Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya, Mr. Shashika Bambarananda and many other distinguished guests were present.
