OUR TRADITIONS
Kirivehera observes an unbroken rhythm of poojas and ceremonies that has continued since the temple's earliest days. Devotees are welcome to join the daily offerings, and pilgrims travel from across the island to take part in the special ceremonies held throughout the year.
The dawn offering that opens the day with chanting, flowers, and incense before the stupa.
The midday offering of alms and blessings, attended by pilgrims and the resident sangha.
The evening pooja with oil lamps lit around the stupa as dusk settles over the temple.
A weekly offering of water and flowers beneath the sacred Bodhi tree, symbolising renewal and gratitude.
The temple's grandest celebration, marking the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha with lanterns and processions.
Full Moon and Half Moon Poya Day observances where devotees undertake the precepts and spend the day in meditation.
Dana and blessing ceremonies dedicated to departed loved ones, held on request throughout the year.
